Our Leadership
The Vestry
(the governing board)
The basic responsibilities of the six members of the vestry are to help define and articulate themission of the congregation; to support the church’s mission by word and deed, to select the rector, to ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector (priest).
There are two wardens. The senior warden leads the parish between rectors and is a support person for the rector. The junior warden has responsibility for church property and buildings.
The Vestry established four goals
founded on our mission and vission statement in April 2009
1. Perform three mission activities in the next four years – one local, one regional and one international.
2. Grow the outreach line item to be 10% of our operating budget in the next four years.
3. Attract six new church members and fifteen new people to attend church each week, targeting 30 and40 something’s, starting in September 2009 until September 2010.
4. Balance the budget by the year 2013 – no leap of faith and no foundation money provided with a full time rector, part time administrator, part time music director.
The Foundation
The Foundation was established by the bequest of Eleanor Linthicum Woodruff in 1987. The primary purpose of her gift was to construct the large beautiful church building that we enjoy today. The remaining funds were to provide “for religious, charitable, literary or educational purposes”.
Only the investment income is available for distribution. Income in exceptional years, which is not disbursed, is added to the original corpus.
The Foundation is comprised of a five member Board of Trustees. The President, Sectretary and Treasurer are elected, by the members of the St Christopher’s Church at their annual meeting. A new member comes onto the board each year and serves for a three-year period. The Senior and Junior Wardens of the Church are the other two members. The rector is an ex-officio (non voting) member.
The Board in consultation with a professional financial advisor directs the portfolio. The Board operates independently, but looks to the Vestry for guidance.
For 2009 the Foundation has partnered with;
